Proudly serving Latrobe for nearly 150 Years

Our History

For over a century, the Latrobe Volunteer Fire Department has stood as a pillar of safety and community spirit. Since our founding on December 17, 1879, we’ve evolved from a small group of dedicated volunteers to one of the most well-equipped and highly trained fire departments in the state.

Starting with just a Champion Village Fire Cart and 10 leather buckets, our journey began in Young’s Hall with the formation of the Goodwill Hose Co. #1. Over the years, we’ve expanded to include multiple companies, modern equipment, and specialized teams. From horse-drawn hook and ladder trucks to today’s advanced aerial platforms and hazmat units, our commitment to progress and innovation has been unwavering.

Looking Ahead

As we celebrate generations of service, we honor the legacy of those who came before us and look forward to continuing our tradition of excellence. We are deeply grateful for the community’s support and the dedication of our past and present members.

Join us as we continue to protect and serve Latrobe, building on a rich history and striving for a safer future.

Our Mission

Today, under the leadership of Fire Chief John Brasile and his dedicated team of officers, we continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of the Latrobe community. Our 156 members, supported by state-of-the-art equipment, are always ready to respond to emergencies with speed and expertise.

Community and Recognition

The Latrobe Volunteer Fire Department is not just about firefighting; it’s about community. Our support services, including a canteen team and fire police, ensure comprehensive assistance during incidents. Our participation in state, western, and county conventions, proudly dressed in our distinctive brown uniforms, has earned us recognition and numerous trophies over the years.
